Fruit Tree Grafting -"At the turn of the century, 1900, there were over 12,000 named varieties of apples in the U.S.   By 2000 there were less than 6,000 and grocery stores carried fewer than 10.  Others were lost to commercial production because they didn't ripen uniformly, didn't color evenly, and didn't have shelf appeal.  Some of the survivors tasted like cardboard, but looked great.  New Mexico Fruit Explorers doesn't care what an apple looks like, if it's taste is superb!  We collect scionwood from old orchards to preserve long forgotten fruit.  Come join us to learn the magic art of grafting!  I am current president of the New Mexico Fruit Explorer's.  We meet monthly to exchange information on growing fruit, nuts, and berries.  I have been growing fruit trees for many years, and started grafting at my granddads knee as a youngster.  I have held grafting workshops in both New Mexico and Alaska." - Dwight
